With three large-format sculptures by Thomas Kiesewetter, the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg presents unusual views and perspectives in the Schlosspark. Open vistas and compact volumes, generosity and exquisite precision, light forms and heavy metal – Thomas Kiesewetter’s sculptures live on dissonance. “I never begin with the intention to build a sculpture. I instead first produce various forms from cardboard – some are voluminous and curved, others rather flat and jagged. With these pieces, I then try to find a configuration, something unforeseen.” This is how the sculptor Thomas Kiesewetter (*1963), who lives in Berlin, characterises his work. He began his artistic career at the end of the 1980s with his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Although he dedicated himself primarily to painting at this time, he has been working sculpturally since then. Kiesewetter refined his sculptural vocabulary in New York, where he lived at the beginning of the millennium.
