With in the framework of his “Expanded Photography” series of works, the artist Christian Dootz created the work “close-up soccer” for the waiting area of the main train station for the Deutsche Bahn AG and the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg. In his large-format photographs, which often call to mind frozen film clips, the artist, who lives in Braunschweig, links concurrence and succession using photographic means and in a narrative form. In Wolfsburg, Christian Dootz captures typical sequences, movements and situations in football in time and space. As a result, the choice of perspectives and the large-format images suggest a situation that is remarkably close to reality to viewers, although it is completely staged. With the images, the artist not only enhances the waiting room of the Wolfsburg main train station to become an artificial “football landscape” but also makes the sporting event coalesce into a microcosm at the same time.
